Plastic Free Queniborough
During the litter pick day in Syston in April I met Sue who has set up a campaign to reduce single use plastic in conjunction with Surfers Against Sewage. There aim is to reduce the use of single use plastic and help achieve a plastic free coast line.
There is another coordinator in Rothley who is working with the local businesses and shops.
Sue’s aim is to engage businesses, shops and individuals in our area to reduce single use plastics and become as plastic free as possible. She has been approved by both Queniborough Parish Council and Syston Town Council.
On Saturday 8th June she, along with three helpers and with the permission of TESCO Syston did a ‘mass unwrap’ . The two hour event was to raise awareness of the public to the amount of single use plastic they purchase while shopping. They approached shoppers and asked them if they would be happy to remove the plastic on goods that could be bought loose. The majority of people took part and in that short time they filled two shopping trolleys with single use plastic, which Tesco would send for recycling.

Sue thanks the three ladies pictured above for their help on Saturday and also Tesco for allowing them to conduct the mass unwrap.
Sue is looking for like minded people to join the committee and help speak to schools, businesses and shops in the area.
