St Peter and St Paul’s Church News
Worship Update
The parish church of St Peter and St Paul holds it’s regular services on Wednesday mornings at 9.30 and Sundays at 10am.
Everyone is welcome to attend. We ask that you wear masks and sanitise your hands on entry to the church. The Parish Parochial Council held its meeting in September and made the decision that singing would resume during parish services. Decisions regarding the inclusion of other traditional features were made.
We are continuing with morning prayer on Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9am live on Facebook.

We also invite you to our evening service of compline at 8pm on Wednesdays. If you would like to join us via zoom please contact Reverend Biddy who will forward the link.
As Leicester Cathedral is closed for renovations the Diocese will be celebrating the priesting of Reverend Biddy Saunders here in Syston Church on the 2nd October at 5.30pm.
Biddy will celebrate together with Reverends Crystal MacAlystair of the Upper Wreake Benefice and Paul Emberton of Thurnby Lodge/Humberstone village. Biddy will preside at her first eucharist service on the 3rd October, all are welcome.
On the 31st October there will be a special service at 10am to coincide with All Saints and All Souls Days. This is to remember all those who have died – particularly during this pandemic. This is especially poignant at this time as many will not have had the funerals their loved ones would have wished for. If there is anyone you would like us to remember and pray for please forward their name(s) to either Revd Biddy or one of the Church Wardens. All are invited to attend the service in remembrance of their loved ones.
Ringing of the church bells
There will now be an effort to begin ringing. Consideration will be given to the ventilation and access. Each ringer will only ring one bell on any one session. Ringing will be for fifteen minutes initially. Before ringing starts there will be a practice one Friday evening to ensure everyone feels confident.
Tots At Ten
Currently we have been unable to restart Tots at Ten. This has been due to a cautious approach regarding Covid restrictions.
Eleven30
As part of the eleven30 ‘Get Ready trail’ there was bark rubbing. The churchyard was put to full use as families stopped off at different trail points to engage in a range of activities. From thinking about things moving and floating around us to appreciating our amazing world. The event was a welcome opportunity for a multigenerational gathering, ending with a prayer and refreshments. We look forward to welcoming more families in the future.
We are meeting on the first Sunday each month. Next meeting Sunday 3rd October. Keep in touch on our Facebook page.
Churches Together in Syston
Praise in the park
Some 70+ people of Syston came together for a service of praise in the sundial area of the park. The Happy Syston Ukulele Band supported the event. Revd Biddy Saunders welcomed everyone and led the opening prayers in a service that was sprinkled with rousing hymns, readings and a reflection by Rev Daniel Yovan from Syston Methodist Church.
The outdoor worship event was organised by Syston Churches Together, which is made up of St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Syston Methodist Church and the Catholic Church of the Divine Infant of Prague. “Bringing church into the open air we were demonstrating that church doesn’t have to be at 10am on a Sunday morning, in a building, and that we can all come together – people of faith, and of none,” explains Revd Biddy. “The main message is that no matter who you are or what you’re doing, God is here for you and we are a community. Everybody is really welcome”
