Syston Community Flood Group

We are the new community flood action group, Syston Community Flood Group, that was formed after the Town Council’s decision to disband their own flood focus group.
Our aim is to prevent flooding by working with the Authorities and helping riparian owners to keep the brook free from obstructions and to improve flood defences.
We already have an offer from the EA to help with a plan to define what works could be carried out in the areas not covered in their de-silting programme. Professional help is needed to ensure we are putting our efforts into the right areas and improving the waterway rather than causing problems due to our enthusiasm and lack of patience!
A recent request for this help was sent to the EA but no reply has yet been received, we shall continue to press them. If anyone knows of another company/person that has the knowledge to assist us with this plan please get in touch.
It would be useful to start building a list of people and businesses that could assist with clearing vegetation/trees, silt, rubbish clearance, fundraising etc. It would also be useful to have your ideas on how to improve and secure the brook areas, please let us know.
It’s an upsetting and frustrating time for the people and businesses that were affected by the floods, we shall do all we can and with a lot of patience and the help of the Syston Community we shall prevail.
